Scripture: Joshua 6: 1-27

March is a significant month in the Bible, as it marks the beginning of several pivotalevents and seasons in the Christian calendar. In the Old Testament, the month of March corresponds to the Hebrew month of Adar, which is associated with the festival of Purim. Purim celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people from the evil plot of Haman, as recounted in the Book of Esther. In the New Testament, the month of March is traditionally linked to the season of Lent, a period of forty days of fasting, prayer, and penance leading up to Easter Sunday when Jesus rose with all power in His hands.
March also serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, hope, and perseverance in the face of adversity. March symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and life over death. It is a time to draw strength from the stories of courage, redemption, and salvation found in the Bible and to renew our commitment to upholding the principles of love, mercy, and justice.

We can also look at the word “march” as an action word to illustrate the meaning of putting one foot in front of the other. In the book of Joshua, chapter 6: 1-27, the Israelites marched around the city walls once a day for six days, seven times on the seventh day, and because they obeyed, the walls came tumbling down. If we stay steadfast and obedient, God will reward us for our efforts, as He has proven so many times in the past. We can’t stand still. We must march to bring down walls that stagnate our growth and impede our progress toward having all people treated equally. During this month of Sisterhood, let us embrace our march for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Let’s review and reflect on our guiding principles and be more focused and engaged as we do the work.
Above all else, let us not forget that our Sorority was built on Christian Principles. Let us not forget on whose shoulders we stand. Let us not forget the battles fought to get us where we are today. Let us embrace our Founders and our Sisters, past and present, who have faced adversity but strived to courageously persevere. Together, we can march on till victory is won!
An excerpt from the poem, “Don’t Quit” by Edgar Albert.
“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must, but don't you quit.”
Dear Lord, increase our faith, renew our strength, revive us, and allow us to march confidently, knowing that we shall overcome and live in peace someday. Keep us safe from hurt, harm, and danger as we strive to obey your commands, believing that victory is ours if we trust and believe in you; in Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN.
